The redesign of Sharjah continues a-pace as Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) signs a two-project deal with hotel chain Marriott.

Two new hospitality projects are to be designed and built for Sharjah’s scenic East Coast under the agreement between Marriott International and Shurooq’s Sharjah Collection & Hotels Management.

Two of Shurooq’s new hospitality projects in Kalba and Khorfakkan by Sharjah Collection & Hotels Management will operate under the Autograph Collection brand, marking the brand’s debut in Sharjah.

Mariott Autograph Collection

Autograph Collection Hotels is made up of 200 hotels that the global hotel company flags up as being “rich in craft and character, design, architecture and unexpected back-stories.”

Internationally, interiors of Autograph Collection hotels are often the work of notable design firms.

In the UAE, Autograph properties include La Ville at City Walk and Lapita Parks and Resorts.

Designed for families

Khorfakkan Hotel will be developed on a land area of approximately 38,000 sqm opposite the Khorfakkan Port, aimed at a market of families and “adventurers,” it was announced on 26 January 2022.

The project will feature 75 deluxe units, the first waterpark on the UAE’s East Coast, a yacht club, residences, restaurants, a spa and a gym. The proposed hotel include 62 single rooms, five double rooms, and eight suites.

The other five-star Marriott development, Kalba Hotel, will be spread across a land area of approximately 60,000 sqm in Kalba, adjacent to the Kalba waterfront project and opposite the Kalba flag square.

This project is close to some of the region’s most renowned diving locations and will feature 80 units, two restaurants, a gym, spa, swimming pool, and meeting halls. Its keys can be broken down as follows: 64 single rooms, 10 double rooms, five three-bedroom options and one four-bedroom.

Tourism destination

Shurooq and Marriott’s announcement is part of a series of projects to shore up Sharjah’s status as a destination of culture and tourism. These include the restoration of one of Sharjah’s most historic houses, construction of a clock tower roundabout and the opening of a revamped corniche, as well as hotel projects including a sustainable desert Moon retreat.
