Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento: A fusion of luxury, design, and natural beauty

The Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento, located in Sant'Agnello

Sorrento has been a sought-after destination for man years. This year, Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento reopens its doors, unveiling an exciting addition – the Oltremare Lounge Bar.

This new venue, located in the hotel lobby, was designed by THDP studio in London and architect Manuela Mannino. With sea colours, natural fabrics, and touches of gold, the bar’s design echoes the Mediterranean ambience.

The project aimed to revitalise the lobby spaces and create a destination bar that celebrates the breathtaking view of the Gulf of Sorrento, adding a new dimension to the hotel’s charm.

The renovation included the transformation of waiting areas into an elegant and refined living room, adorned with sinuous sofas, armchairs with natural wood details, and a marine-inspired palette ranging from aqua green to ultramarine blue.

The arches were enhanced with bronze frames and curated showcases featuring a collection of objects and artefacts crafted by local artisans, representing the hotel’s rich history.

A small private event room, separated from the lobby by a double-sided fireplace and adorned with a Murano glass chandelier, adds a touch of exclusivity to the space.

The Oltremare Lounge Bar’s walls are adorned with custom wallpaper by Jannelli and Volpi, showcasing a seamless transition from the blue line of the sea visible through the terrace’s large windows to the interior spaces, immersing guests in the Mediterranean’s azure waters.

The bar counter, covered in natural brushed brass, acquires a unique patina over time, offering a surface with unexpected nuances. The counter’s back features overlapping panels in bronze, brass, and ribbed glass, creating a mesmerising artwork that highlights the collection of bottles. Domes in burnished bronze with internal gold leaf coating and a dedicated DJ station complete the bar’s design.

Throughout the hotel, the design concept harmonises with the coastal surroundings, incorporating elements inspired by the sea. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with sand and rope shades, reminiscent of the beach, showcased in a custom-designed carpet by Besana that elegantly combines waves and sand. The use of eco-leather with a shagreen print on Artnet stools and tables with a laminan finish reflecting the silver hues of Mediterranean fish skin further enhances the coastal aesthetic.

With a rich history spanning over 100 years, Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento has been a cherished landmark on the Sorrento coast. Originally a private residence, it was transformed into a hotel in the mid-20th century. Today, the hotel features 61 rooms, including sea-view Junior Suites and family rooms. The rooms reflect the region’s architectural heritage, incorporating raw materials and coastal colours, such as Vesuvian lava table tops, parquet flooring reminiscent of stilts on the sea, and brass details inspired by Neapolitan traditions. The hotel has also prioritised environmental sustainability, aiming to achieve significant plastic-free goals and providing an electric vehicle charging station.
