Exploring the boundaries of luxury design and technology, the inaugural Luxeverse event took place at Dubai’s Museum of the Future on Saturday, October 21 attracting a crowd of designers, developers and other digital-curious professionals.
The event was the brainchild of Ritika Kothari, founder of Colab Cloud Meta, who hoped to provide attendees with a better understanding of the quickly evolving landscape of design and technology. A series of panel discussions covered topics including digital twins, AR art exhibits, and NFT auctions.
Interior designer and co-founder of 4SPACE Design, Firas Alshain delivered a keynote speech encouraging the design community to embrace generative AI, rather than avoid it. “It’s a tool, not something to be afraid of,” he assured the crowd.
“AI allows you to produce imagery to show clients instead of using references from Pinterest and other designers of projects that already exist,” Alshain said. “It also allows you to create custom and highly personalised mood boards.”
An advocate for the use of generative AI through programs such as Midjounry, Sanity and
Dall-E, Alsahin imparted his key advice for hesitant designers.
“Take action now and master the technology, because AI is already here whether you like it or not,” he said. The first step? “Figure out how it is going to disrupt your business, and then master it to use it to your advantage.”
Throughout his address, Alshain shared a series of images produced using Midjourney, visualising how a ‘Museum of the Future 2.0’ might look. “This is a brilliant building, but here is what you can create using it as a prompt,” he said. “Identify all the tools relevant to you and your work, and master them”
Alsahin also explored the new career pathways that will present themselves as the use of generative AI becomes more common. “Prompt engineering is a new job opportunity, and you will only be limited by how well you can devise a prompt.”
