Austria’s country pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will be made up of 38 interlocking cones standing between six and 15 metres high.
They will be cut off at the top and plastered using the world’s oldest building material – clay.
The design will also incorporate a natural ventilation concept, using wind towers to keep the interior spaces cool during the six-month expo, which begins in October.
Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, executive director, Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, said: “We look forward to seeing Austria’s innovative and exciting construction efforts come to life as we continue our journey together towards a once-in-a-lifetime celebration in less than a year’s time at Expo 2020.”
The UAE is Austria’s closest trading partner in the region and the country wants to deepen its ties with the Arab nation during Expo 2020 Dubai.
Ground has already been broken on the Austria pavilion, with less than one year to go until the expo opens its doors to the world in October 2020.
