Expo 2020 Dubai country pavilions: Germany

Expo 2020 Dubai, Country pavilions, Sustainability

As the world’s fourth largest economy and the driving force in Europe, Germany is building a pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai designed as a campus that combines nature and technology.

Located in the Sustainability District, the building will demonstrate its commitment to the environment by making use of reusable materials and following green building standards.

It will also respond to the local climate and reference traditional Arabic courtyard houses.

Ground was broken on the campus-themed pavilion in April 2019 and it is located next to the falcon-shaped host pavilion of the UAE, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

It will exhibit a collection of ideas to address climate change and simulate sustainable economic growth. Visitors will be able to pick from 155,000 hand-sized balls in the colours of the German flag, with each one either telling a story, showing a statistic or spotlighting a sustainability champion from Germany.

This 150-word write-up about the German Pavilion is part of a Commercial Interior Design series exploring every country pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, with less than 12 months to go until the six-month show begins.
