The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) will start work on a mini city that will be home to 14,000 workers employed by the Red Sea Project when the ambitious tourism gigaproject opens.

The Coastal Village will house workers, staff and management of The Red Sea Project. It will include corporate offices, housing and high-end facilities, according to TRSDC, the project's developer.

On Friday, local Saudi firms HUTA Hegerfield and Saudconsulting Services (Saudconsult) were awarded contracts to carry out groundwork improvements for the village.

Saudiconsult will be tasked with ensuring all design and construction elements remain on schedule during the project, which is expected to be completed in five months.

The Coastal Village covers 1.5km² and the construction of offices has already started in a small area of the site.

They are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2020 and will accommodate 500 people. The building will also have space for a 160-seat restaurant and a 100-person seat auditorium.

The Red Sea Project is one of several gigaprojects – a development worth more than $10bn – that is gathering momentum in Saudi Arabia.
