A major renovation is being planned for the former Al Areen Palace & Spa in Bahrain, following a takeover by Accor that will lead to the creation of the kingdom’s first Raffles hotel.

Hospitality group Accor is bringing the high-end Raffles brand to Bahrain, after clinching a deal with GFH Financial Group to manage the first ultra-luxury destination in the country.

Accor’s CEO for the Middle East & Africa, Mark Willis, said he plans to create an “exclusive Arabia-meets-Asia palatial retreat”.

A major refurbishment will be required before the hotel can be relaunched as Raffles Bahrain.

This extensive programme will include a full redesign of the 56 one-bedroom and 22 two-bedroom villas. The hotel’s four food and drink spots will be converted into six, while the spa, hydrotherapy area, gyms and swimming pools will be upgraded.

Accor hopes the renovation, coupled with a focus on health and wellbeing, will make the hotel the most luxurious retreat in Bahrain.

The resort will have 78 pool villas, the Middle East’s biggest spa and hydrotherapy facility and palatial-style Arabian landscaping.
