London-based product design studio Michael Anastassiades has reengineered its 2014 lighting collection to launch two outdoor lamps made with natural stone bases.
With natural Italian rock, refined finishes and waterproofing, eponymous studio Michael Anastassiades, headed by the UK-educated Cypriot designer of the same name, has launched IC Outdoor.
The two outdoor floor lamps have been redesigned by the studio in order to give them a new life as open-air products of illumination.
The stem comes in four finishes, such as lava stone or travertino dug from quarries on of the slopes of the Etna volcano in Sicily, southern Italy.
The travertino stone, meanwhile, comes from Tuscany and the studio said it's made of “vegetal fragments and carbonate” that add to the natural and refined style of the slender outdoor lights.
The thin metallic steam comes in two heights, 135cm and 185cm, with a 30cm steel or brass bar that extends perpendicularly out from the stalk of the lamp. On top of this sits a blown glass spherical light.
In a press statement about the new range, Michael Anastassiades said the lamp has “a poetic grace and visionary design quality”.
