The Bodhi tree, under which Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher known as the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment was chosen as the inspiration behind the new look for Siddharta Lounge in Grosvenor House, Dubai.
The LW team that created the original design and fit-out was appointed to refurbish the space, resulting in a lush, vibrant ambiance.
According to the design team, through the addition of bi-fold partitions, the overall layout has a better continuity and diners are attracted to explore the space.
There are now several different seating areas to choose from, each delivering a different feel. From marina view cabanas, offering a level of privacy, to seating on the steps overlooking the Arabian Gulf or pool, the emphasis is on a natural, comfortable setting.
Throughout the lounge, nature’s touch has been woven in to carry the theme. A green wall and a water feature flank the pool. There are many plant pots dotted around and the choice of materials selected for furniture all have a natural feel. However, the overall effect is surprisingly urban.
The large mirror behind the main bar draws the outside in. This feeling is continued by the use of woven chairs; the raw concrete bar counter; rattan feature chairs and dip-dyed macramé pendant lights. Eclectic accent pieces such as woven baskets and stone Buddha heads evoke memories of exotic holidays. Clever use of lighting transforms the space from day to night.
Located in the same hotel, LW Design refurbished the interiors of Buddha-Bar Dubai last year.
Pia Sen, associate at LW Design, was part of the design team who worked on the original Dubai Buddha-Bar concept, which opened its doors in 2005 and was leading the design team again.
