In pictures: Zaha Hadid’s design legacy

As the world of architecture mourns the loss of Zaha Hadid at the age of 65, we take a look at some of her most striking structures that have pushed design boundaries.

In the words of her friend Lord Norman Foster “It was Zaha’s triumph to go beyond the beautiful graphic visions of her sculptural approach to architecture into reality that so upset some of her critics. She was an individual of great courage, conviction and tenacity.”

1. Serpentine Sackler Gallery, Hyde Park, London

In 2013, Zaha Hadid transformed the interior of the Magazine building – a 200-year-old former gunpowder store – and added a curvaceous new extension as a contemporary counterpoint.

2. Dongdaemun Design Park

3. The Heydar Aliyev Center

The Heydar Aliyev Center is a 619,000-square-foot building complex in Baku, Azerbaijan designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid.

5.  Messner Mountain Museum Corones

MMM Corones, situated on the summit plateau of Kronplatz (2275 m), is dedicated to the discipline of mountaineering, which Reinhold Messner has strongly influenced. The museum is devoted to alpine history and offers unique views of the big walls of the Dolomites and the Alps.

6. Sheikh Zayed bridge in Abu Dhabi 

Sheikh Zayed Bridge, opened in 2010, is an arch bridge in Abu Dhabi. The 842 meter long bridge is said to be the most intricate ever constructed with its curved lines reflecting the sand dunes of the desert.

The lights of the Sheikh Zayed bridge in Abu Dhabi , designed by Zaha Hadid, were turned off upon news of the architect’s death as a tribute to her legacy.

7. Dominion office building, Moscow, Russia

Dominion Tower, an avant-garde office complex in Moscow, designed by Zaha Hadid is home to technogloy and start-up companies.
