Govind Shepley, Creneau International’s former senior designer, has started a boutique interiors agency called TwentyOne06 targeting commercial and hospitality design.
Shepley, TwentyOne06’s founder and creative director, started the Dubai-based firm last year.
The multidisciplinary agency has a team of five people with 20 years combined experience.
“We see ourselves as design challengers and we aim to create a positive change for businesses and brands from within: we listen, we learn and then we challenge,” Shepley told Commercial Interior Design.
“We don’t just look at delivering a good interior; our studio uses a multidisciplinary approach to delivering a complete customer experience ensuring that the end result is all encompassing.”
The practice will focus on commercial and hospitality design, focusing on renovations in the food and beverage space. Existing clients include Nakheel and Sarood Hospitality, formerly Jumeirah Restaurant Group Dubai.
Projects include Black Goose in the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Hotel, designed in a collaboration with Aces of Space. It is also working on Another Bar in Dusit Thani, health food café Flow, a private residential project, and an Abu Dhabi jazz lounge.
TwentyOne06 is also tendering for F&B projects at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Its strategic plans include developing its team, moving into commercial office projects and exploring opportunities in Asia and Africa.
Collaboration is critical, too. As well as working with Aces of Space, the boutique practice has three design and build jobs with Design Infinity, A&T Group Interiors and Taag.
“It was never our intention to move into the design and build market but… clients have seen our project management on site and asked us to either bring on contractors or contractors have asked us to join their design, build tenders and create a stronger pitch,” he said.
Before UK-educated Shepley set up TwentyOne06 in 2018, he ran Creneau International’s design department in Dubai for two-and-a-half years, increasing the team from three to seven people.
Before that he worked for London-based boutique practice Blacksheep Design Studio.
