Eleanor Watson has been appointed as curator of the upcoming edition of the Global Grad Show, an exhibition that gathers top graduate talent from around the world on design and technology.

Elenor takes over the position from Brendan McGetrick who will continue to advise on the curation and programming of the show while assuming his new role as Creative Director of the Museum of the Future, set to open at the end of the year.

Eleanor was previously part of the curitorial team at the Design Museum in London, working on a number of exhibitions with a focus on drawing visibility to the impact of design, such as 2018’s Beazley Designs of the Year. She is also responsible for curating a triannual programme of free public displays for the museum.

"Young people today find themselves in a uniquely challenging position. As we face the stark realities of a global environmental crisis, as well as the more insidious effects of hyper-connectivity, it can feel that we are part of a landscape that is already simply too crowded," Watson said.

"Over the past few months I have been learning from some of the best design, art and engineering schools from across the globe on what it means to be a designer in a world that already has too much and how we can better live in an era where the links between the micro-scale of our individual human experience and the macro scale of our planet can no longer be ignored."

She added: "Global Grad Show will be the coming together of all these ideas and will demonstrate that although the role of design seems to stay the same; it is about engaging with the world around us with intelligence and compassion."

The Global Grad Show is part of Dubai Design Week's programme of exhibitions, taking place from 12-16 November.
