Gillian Blair has recently been appointed to the role of senior interior designer at Design Worldwide Partnership’s (dwp) Middle East studio. Previously, she worked as a senior interior designer within the interior design division at Godwin Austen Johnson.
At the 2017 Commercial Interior Design Awards, Blair won the Young Interior Designer of the Year recognition, during which the judges had described her as “having an extremely mature portfolio with an elegant, sophisticated and timeless design aesthetic”.
This is Blair’s second stint at dwp. The Glasgow native first came to the Middle East in 2012. She says about her long-standing association with dwp: “At my university degree show, I met the associate design director at dwp. Within one month, I was in my first role at the company in Bahrain.”
Blair is currently working on a five star hotel in North Jeddah for an established Spanish operator, a tech-savvy immersive sales experience gallery, monitoring construction on site for a local heritage hotel, and finally, a landmark five star property for W Hotels.
She says: “What excites me about these projects is diversity. I get to wear several hats throughout my working day. Interior design in our region is limitless. Our clients’ dreams are as big as our own.” Blair hopes to lead young designers in her new responsibility. She says: “After all, I was in their shoes not so long ago.”
Justin Wells, director, dwp says: “We are delighted to welcome Gillian. She brings a wealth of design experience and is a master at immersing herself deeply into the discovery phase, which clients really appreciate. Her recruitment to dwp is strategic as we position ourselves as a regional design powerhouse.”
