Abu Dhabi has updated the rules for entry into the emirate from the rest of the UAE and PCR tests are back.
Starting from December 30, 2021, vaccinated people coming into Abu Dhabi must show the Al Hosn green pass, while those who have not been vaccinated must show a negative PCR test “received within 96 hours.”
The changes were announced by the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee on Tuesday (December 28) as part of efforts to enhance precautionary measures to protect public health.
A negative PCR test will be required every 14 days to maintain the green status on Al Hosn app.
Scanners introduced at Abu Dhabi border
The latest measures are in addition to the emirate updating checks on people entering the emirate from within the UAE in a series of new requirements put in place from Sunday, December 19.
Drivers and passengers are scanned by EDE devices. Anyone with signs that they may have the virus is sent for a free rapid antigen test, which delivers results in about 20 minutes.
Bringing back PCR tests
In June 2020, the Abu Dhabi authorities put a border patrol in place to help control the spread of COVID-19 in the emirate.
Drivers and passengers were required to show a negative PCR test between July 2020 and September 2021.
After a surge in Covid figures, the safety measure has been re-introduced.
