UAE: UBM Built Environment has cancelled the interior design exhibition, Interiors UAE, which was last held in May 2011 at ADNEC, Abu Dhabi.

The tradeshow has been running for four years but the organisers said that due to ‘difficult market conditions’ it has taken the reluctant decision to cancel the 2012 event.

“As established show organisers, we have to listen to the industry and serve it as best we can,” said Tony Crinion, brand director, Interiors UAE.

“The decision to cancel Interiors UAE is disappointing, but without an increased support from the local and international industry we have taken the decision that at present there is not enough demand for the event in the current economic climate.”

Interiors UAE was run by UBM Built Environment, a UK B2B information provider serving the construction, interiors and commercial property communities.

It featured furniture, lighting, homewares, fabrics, kitchens, bathrooms, floor and wall coverings, ceramics and textiles.

It had product launches from i-Saloni Milan Exhibition, Maison et Objet Paris, Interiors UK, IMM Cologne & Stockholm Furniture Fair as well as design seminars, the Interiors UAE Student Design Challenge and Young British Design Pavilion.

Former exhibitor, Jenny Christiansen, regional sales manager Middle East, Fritz Hansen said there was not enough advertising and marketing to promote the show and the set up of the hall was not very inviting.
“There were a lot of lost business opportunities at the event because the on-site organisation and support limited availability,” she said.

“We set up the VIP lounge which was not highlighted and in any way addressed.

“There was also limited signage, which was a shame as especially as the architect and design community came to see high-end brands like ours.”

Other exhibitions organised by UBM Built Environment include Interiors UK, Decorex International UK, Sleep Mumbai and The Sleep Event, also in the UK.
