Superstudio launches competition for UAE creatives to design the next Moooi carpet

In collaboration with well-known Dutch brand Moooi Carpets and its founder Marcel Wanders, Dubai-based furniture and lighting distributor, Superstudio, has announced its first ‘Your Own Design Carpet’ competition.

During a private event that was held today at the superstudio showroom, architects and designers from the region were invited to take part and submit their original designs for the next Moooi Carpets concept.

The winning design will be produced as a rug and printed with Moooi Carpets’ high-definition full-colour carpet printing technology. Moooi Carpets will include this winning design in their Signature collection.

The chosen designers will have until 15 August to submit their final work. The winner will be announced by superstudio during Dubai Design Week, held between 24-29 October.

“Since launching Moooi Carpets in 2015 at the Milan fair Marcel Wanders and I have been keen to promote Moooi Carpets further among the local designers,” explains Mohsin Jawaheri, founder of Superstudio.

“During his visit earlier this year during Dubai Design Week, we decided to hold this competition and give a local designer the opportunity to be among Moooi Carpets signature collection and this puts regional designers on a global platform to better expose the local creativity.”

“We are grateful for Dubai Design Week and d3 to give us also the opportunity to be part of Dubai Design Week 2016 where we will announce and present the winning design. This is the first of its kind in the region, and we hope we can have further collaboration with other superstudio’s brands in the near future,” says Jawaheri.
