INDEX 2023 to explore impact of technology on design and retail

Commercial Interior Design is headline media partner for INDEX at Dubai World Trade Centre

Dubai will play host to a major exploration of technology’s transformative impact on architecture, design, and the retail sector. INDEX 2023, the go-to meeting place for the interior design and fit-out industries, is taking place on May 23 to 25, and Commercial Interior Design is headline media partner.

This year’s event will delve into the rapid changes brought about by AI, the metaverse, data analytics, and e-commerce.

INDEX’s Design Talks and Retail Leadership Forum will bring together industry pioneers to discuss the future of these sectors. The role of technology in talent nurturing and recruitment, logistics, design processes, customer engagement, and inventory management will be key areas of discussion.

“Changes in operational and supply dynamics can dictate the success or failure of businesses within these sectors,” notes Elaine O’Connell, Vice President of Design & Leisure at dmg events, the organisers of INDEX.

With sponsorship from Geberit, Cosentino, Presto, and Kohler, the INDEX Design Talks will spotlight the influence of technology on the industry.

Firas Alsahin, co-founder and design director at 4Space, will discuss the revolutionary impact of AI on the architecture and interior design process. “AI is reshaping our design approach, enhancing creativity, and revolutionising the construction and habitation of our physical and digital spaces. It opens the door for a new design era that is more efficient and visionary,” Alsahin stated.

The Design Talks will also dissect the design industry’s contribution to achieving sustainability goals. Esra Lemmens, Founder of The Esra Lemmens Agency and Chairperson of Design Talks, asserts this to be crucial to the industry’s survival and reputation. “Designers must consider renewable materials, waste reduction, and carbon footprint minimisation, ensuring their products are resource-efficient, durable and aesthetically pleasing,” Lemmens said.

In addition to exploring the role of technology and sustainability, the Design Talks will also promote young Emirati talent and showcase the Top 10 projects of the INDEX student competition.

A new addition to INDEX 2023 is the Stones and Surfaces Summit. Sponsored by Asian Paints Berger, it will explore the pivotal role of stones, surfaces, and paints in contemporary design and architecture, covering topics such as laminate flooring vs luxury vinyl tiles, stone and surface applications in interior design, and trends in surface design.

The Retail Leadership Forum will focus on current consumer trends, logistics strategies, and procurement techniques. It will provide opportunities for industry leaders to enhance their business tactics and boost profitability. Dr Ali Hammoud, CEO of Midas Furniture, highlights that the forum will allow delegates to gain insights to navigate challenges such as staff recruitment and retention, shifting consumer behaviour, rising data security threats, and the blending of physical and digital shopping.
