Europe’s tallest tower to be redrawn and relocated

Gazprom Tower

The proposed headquarters of Russian energy company Gazprom Neft, set to be the largest building in Europe, will be moved to a new location on the outskirts of St Petersburg, following criticism from UNESCO and conservationists.

The energy company has applied for planning approval for a new site for the Gazprom Tower, after widespread complaints that the tower’s city centre location would ruin St Petersburg’s historic skyline.

It is understood the original 455-metre high design by RMJM will now be redrawn and may be up to 25% lower when completed.
