The Age of True Lies? Stockholm based-Natural Color System (NCS) has released its trend forecast for 2021 and things are going to get interesting.

Four different groups of trends are presented - Virtual Relativity, Bio-Depth, Seeds and Honesty - reflecting an escape from reality, mysticism, connectivity to our roots and collective power of inclusivity.

NCS Colour Trends 2021+ is the latest trend book by the colour system for design and architecture and includes insights about the colour trends for the coming years and their drivers, plus pocket-sized NCS QL1 samples.

This all comes in a pearlescent cover - very on-trend for next year, FYI.

Karl Johan Bertilsson, creative director of NCS Color, says: “When we worked on the forecasts for 2021, we knew that big changes were going to happen in the world, but we did not know that a virus would take place in an arena where climate, politics, economics and gender issues were driving the big changes.

"What COVID-19 has caused has, however, strengthened our forecasts and made them even more relevant.”

Founded more than 40 years ago, the scientifically-based colour system has 1,950 standard colours.

Looking to other significant trend forecaster, paint brand Dulux has named a "reassuring" earthy beige hue called Brave Ground as its colour of the year for 2021.

In 2019, Pantone announced that its 2020 shade is Classic Blue, a hue reminiscent of the sky at dusk.

"It's a color that anticipates what's going to happen next," said Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, which selects the Color of the Year
