Roca's biennial design competition is a platform for architects and designers to show their talent.

Due to what's going on in the world, this time around the contest - held the collaboration of BCD -Barcelona Design Centre - has a special edition relevant to our new reality.

The ninth edition of jumpthegap will focus on new products or services related to the functions of the bathroom space, such as sanitation, hygiene, and wellbeing, but that could now in a time of COVID be required in public or private spaces.

More than 25,000 participants from 150 countries have taken part in the design challenge so far and this time round, five winners will be chosen for a cash prize.

"We are facing a new scenario, a ‘new normal’, with new needs in all aspects related to personal hygiene, cleaning and disinfection, that will not be limited to the bathroom, but will spread further in other areas," says Xavier Torras, communications director of the bathrooms brand.

"The perception of users in regard to moving in a safe environment and using safe products, both at home and in the public sphere, will be vital in this new context and for this reason Roca launch this competition with a brief that is not only limited to the bathroom space."

Registration is open at www.jumpthegap.net from now until to June 23rd. The five selected projects will be announced on the July 23rd and each awarded €1,000.
