A new report predicts a boost for the region’s contracting and fit out industries.

In 2020, the UAE is expected to lead the share of fit out and interior spend in the region, at 42 per cent of the total, followed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at 29 per cent.

The overall GCC interior contracting and fit-out spend across all sectors is expected to increase from US$ 8,975 million in 2019 to US$ 10,160m in 2020, a rise of nine per cent.

Published by Ventures Onsite and INDEX ahead of this year’s edition of the interiors exhibition, the report summarises how technology, digital solutions and innovation are central to the growth of the sector.

The report also notes how BIM software Revit is utilised to ensure high quality construction documentation, flexibility and enhanced multidisciplinary coordination, particularly between interior design and MEP.

Commenting on its findings, Mehmet Aktash, general manager at leading UAE interior design agency, Bishop Design, said: “Offering increased efficiency for the construction industry, the software allows all consultants involved in a particular project to have easy and quick access to extensive information. Currently, we are witnessing a spread of the software throughout the construction field, and it’s on the cusp of taking the interiors industry by storm, ultimately transforming the way we are designing.”

More than 500 exhibitors are expected to attend the 30th edition of INDEX, which takes place from 14th-16th September at DWTC.
