Housed in the Opus building in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa district, Meliá Hotels’ ME Dubai opens on March 1. The Opus is Dubai's only building which has both the interior and exterior designed by the late Zaha Hadid, who founded Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA).

The exterior and interior of the hotel merge seamlessly, showcasing light-flooded atriums, curved spaces and minimalist interiors. More sculpture than architecture, The Opus is a giant glass cube of a building with a distorted, voluptuous void at its core.

A landmark in its neighbourhood, which is also home to the world’s tallest building, The Opus comprises two glazed 100-m high towers connected by a four-storey atrium at the ground level and an asymmetric sky-bridge suspended 71m from the ground.

"The design conveys the remarkably inventive quality of ZHA's work," said Mahdi Amjad, CEO of Omniyat. "It expresses a sculptural sensibility that reinvents the balance between solid and void, opaque and transparent, interior and exterior."

Originally scheduled to open in 2018, the building was dogged by construction delays and took eight years to be completed. The building's developer, Omniyat, started the handover of commercial units in October 2018.

ME Dubai will consist of 93 rooms and suites, across 19 floors, the ultra-luxurious ‘Suite ME’, as well as 98 serviced apartments. The property will feature dramatic, signature furniture in the lobby, vertical café, lounges and reception area, which were either designed or personally selected by Zaha Hadid.

The lifestyle hotel will offer 15 restaurants, including Roka, the contemporary Japanese robatayaki restaurant. Founded in London in 2004, Roka was created by Rainer Becker following the huge success of Zuma London.
