Italian manufacturer Aquafil, which makes nylon from recyclable waste, and Denmark’s Ege Carpets have created a sustainable bespoke carpet for one of the most prestigious parties at Cannes Film Festival.

Every year, luxury jewellery house Chopard organises the glamorous black tie Love Party, which is regularly attended by some of the biggest celebrities at the film festival in the French Riviera.

For Cannes Film Festival 2019, Aquafil and Ege Carpets collaborated with Chopard to create a bespoke carpet made with the Italian company’s regenerated nylon product Econyl. This is made from recycled waste rather than oil and the company says it helps to divert global waste from landfills and oceans.

The colourful carpet is designed not only for Cannes Film Festival, but to showcase sustainability in the interior design industry, according to Aquafil's boss.

“We are honoured to be collaborating with Chopard this year for their annual Love Party,” said Aquafil CEO and chairman Giulio Bonazzi.

“The Love Party is one of the standout red carpet moments at Cannes Film Festival and with Chopard, we are excited to see all aspects of sustainable design, from the jewellery to the carpet, at the centre of this year’s festival.”

While Aquafil is an international business with no physical presence in the Middle East or North Africa, in April it awarded two designers from Egypt’s Reform Studio a prize for creating a fabric derived from discarded plastic bags.
