Meet the judges for Commercial Interior Design Awards: 2023 Saudi

The first-ever CID AWards in Saudi Arabia is taking place in June

We are pleased to announce the panel of judges for the first edition of the Commercial Interior Design Awards in Saudi Arabia, CID Awards 2023: Saudi. This event aims to showcase the exceptional talent of interior designers from the region, demonstrating their ability to compete on the international stage.

The judges for CID Awards 2023: Saudi bring a wealth of experience and recognition, both regionally and globally. As nominations for projects come to a close, the judges eagerly anticipate the inspiring designs that will be submitted.

The event takes place on June 7 at voco Riyadh, with shortlists to be announced soon.

The judging panel for the CID Awards 2023: Saudi includes:

Annamaria Lambri, Outreach Coordinator and Associate Professor of Interior Design, School of Architecture, Art & Design at the American University Dubai (AUD)

An experienced CID Awards judge, Lambri views this as a great opportunity to recognise design development and highlight the journey into future scenarios.

She said: “I am excited about being part of Commercial Interior Design Awards Saudi Arabia.

“It is a great opportunity to recognise the design development and to highlight the journey into future scenarios. The renewed attention to changes in the built environment and its identity is translated by innovative concepts merging with new wellbeing perceptions.”

Dima Alkawadri
Assistant Professor of Interior Design at the School of Textiles and Design at Heriot-Watt University Dubai

A chartered registered architect with over 15 years of experience in the field, Alkawadri is passionate about interior design, sustainability and art, and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in sustainable developments.

On the CID Awards: Saudi, she said: “The design sector in Saudi Arabia has been growing rapidly in recent years. The CID Awards play an important role in the growth and development of the sector in the country as it recognises and celebrates local designers’ achievements and showcases their work to a wider audience. I am so excited to be part of the awards as a judge and looking forward to seeing the projects from Saudi Arabia.”

Enayat Ghaedi, accomplished architect and associate at RMJM

An accomplished architect with over 12 years of experience in the GCC region, Enayat Ghaedi is delighted to be one of our esteemed judges for the awards.

He has successfully led project teams for renowned international practices, showcasing expertise in large-scale developments, including hospitality, commercial, residential, and cultural projects.

He said: “I am excited to be the judge of the upcoming prestigious CID Saudi Arabia Awards 2023. The ethical responsibility that designers have to the end users and the occupants of the space is crucial: Everyone has to feel comfortable in the designed space. The projects not only have to fit the building but also be functional and commercially viable. I will benchmark successful projects against these values.”

Juan Roldan, architect, professor and design consultant in KSA

Another veteran CID Awards judge Juan Roldan is a Spanish architect and educator who holds degrees from ETSAM Madrid and Bartlett School of Architecture UCL, London.

As an Associate Professor at the American University of Sharjah, he focuses on urban interiors and re-appropriating city spaces. As a professor and design consultant in KSA for the past two years, has observed the exciting emerging landscape of design in the region.

Roldan believes in the transformative power of good interior design and its ability to shape societies. He expresses his enthusiasm for the Saudi edition of the CID Awards by stating, “I’m thrilled to be serving as a jury member for the 2023 KSA Edition of the CID Awards. I firmly believe that quality design has the potential to revolutionise society both culturally and economically.”

Paul Clifford, Group Editor, Hospitality & Design, ITP Media Group

Paul Clifford oversees three of the region’s most respected hospitality and design trade titles and is participating in the Commercial Interior Design Awards process for the first time. He emphasises the importance of these awards for the design industry in the Middle East and is eager to evaluate the submitted nominations.

Paul says, “It’s only right that we showcase the fantastic work being done in Saudi Arabia now. Along with my fellow judges, I take the responsibility extremely seriously and can’t wait to get stuck into the incredible nominations that were submitted.”

These four accomplished judges bring a diverse range of perspectives and expertise to the CID Awards 2023: Saudi, ensuring a fair and comprehensive evaluation of the outstanding commercial interior design projects submitted.
