Prague-based Preciosa Lighting has been in the crystal market since 1724 and its chandeliers can be found in some of the finest hotels, restaurants, palaces and cruise ships across New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Moscow and London. The company returns as a gold sponsor of the CID Awards this year after enjoying what Martin Fryzelka, managing director of Preciosa Gulf, calls a “stellar year” for the business.
“The year started off on a very high note with the opening of the Mandarin Oriental Jumeria, Dubai, which features a very large installation from Preciosa in their lobby,” he says. “Canopy of Light is a dynamic installation consisting of 14 trees in three sizes, made from hundreds of hand-blown Bohemian crystal leaves with a champagne matte finish.”
Preciosa is also providing lighting for The Royal Atlantis Residences & Resort, Address Fountain Views and TAJ Residences JLT. Alongside hospitality, Preciosa is working on what Fryzelka calls a “beautiful installation” in a Bahraini hospital that combines nature and crystal. In addition to a collection of high-profile residences and a new lighting deal for Abu Dhabi International Airport, the company finds itself in a position of strength.
Preciosa also launched its Signature Designs concept at Euroluce in Milan earlier this year. Signature Designs offer designers a way to quickly and easily include bespoke lighting in their projects, with unlimited customisation possibilities: different scales, compositions, colours, materials and surface finishes, construction principles and illumination methods can all be tweaked to create bespoke lighting. Complementing the Signature Designs concept is the company’s expanded portfolio of residential lighting solutions, following the addition of solitaire, Gemma, and table lamp, Siren.
As Preciosa goes from strength to strength, Frezelka says it is important to take a step back, reflect and support the design industry. “Preciosa believes in supporting good design – be it lighting, furniture, architectural or product. Awards like the CID Awards give designers the opportunity to be recognised for their hard work, give manufacturers, developers and other designers a place to discover innovative design and, finally, it’s an opportunity for the Middle East design community to come together for one evening and celebrate the wonderful work being done here,” he notes.
