Driven by a design ethos adhering to a philosophy that form and material are a direct response to context, culture and environment, David Lessard brings a wealth of insight to the CID Awards 2019 judging cohort. As partner and design director of Dubai-based atelier H+A, Lessard has expertise across healthcare, hospitality and wellness design – all important areas as the UAE economy diversifies away from oil.
Having been based in Dubai for more than a decade, he helped to bring a diverse typology of architecture and design projects from concept through to construction completion.
Prior to starting his own pratice, Lessard woked with Perkins+Will in their Dubai office.
He tells Commercial Interior Design he wants to pick winning projects that move beyond aesthetics and “meaningfully respond to the surrounding context, culture and environment”.
The quest to build hotels and homes with “Instagrammable” places, he adds, has dominated design discourse for far too long. “I’d like to take a step back to fundamentals and scrutinise how the nominated projects curate an experience that is engaging – with a human-centric, detail oriented approach that is memorable and thought provoking.”
Commercial Interior Design would like to thank the judges for giving up time in their busy schedules to select the 2019 winners, as well as extend our warmest to everyone who has entered the awards. We wish everyone the best of luck.
