Dubai-based interiors firm Light Space Design won the Interior Design of the Year: Office for its Jetsmarter project at the Commercial Interior Design Awards 2018.
Up against strong competition that included the Dewan Headquarters by Dewan Architects + Engineers, the Dubai Economic Security Centre by ZAD Studio, and the Office of Sustainability, American University of Sharjah by its students and faculty, Light Space Design’s winning project was celebrated by judges for its ability to incorporate the space’s challenges into a successful “harmonious end result”.
According to Light Space’s partner Farid Noufaily, who accepted the award with the firm’s founder Omar Abdelghafour, the award acknowledges the small team’s great effort and reaffirms the importance of its commitment to projects. The award was presented by Matt Hall, regional director at Interface.
Noufaily said: “We’ve been working very hard for this and there has been a lot of team work,” Noufaily said. “Our team is truly amazing, we have a lot of great people standing behind us. To hit this calibre is so special.”
Abdelghafour added: “It’s justification for our team and our collaborators. This award is the culmination of two to three years of finding our voice and our design language, and knowing that we’re on the right track.”
Highly commended recognition went to Loci Architecture + Design for its project Corporate Headquarters at Emirates Towers, which was praised by judges for it spatial concept and use of natural lighting.
