Rasha Al-Tekreeti from MMAC Design Associates took home the trophy for the Young Interior Designer of the Year, beating the other seven finalists in the category. The event, held on September 19, 2018 at the Joharah Ballroom in the Madinat Jumeirah, was attended by almost 1,000 regional design industry professionals, making it the biggest iteration to date.
Accepting her award from a John Carruthers, managing director of Fagerhult Middle East and North Africa, an evidently shocked Al-Tekreeti said: "It feels great to have won this award. I'm so happy for this achievement, but I still can't believe it. Thanks to my amazing team at MMAC Design Associates for always supporting me, helping me and for being there for me."
She feels that she stood out among the finalists for her unique design language, as well as her value to the firm.
Highly commended in the category was Adriana Graur from Perkins+Will for her positive and enthusiastic approach.
The judges were impressed by Al-Tekreeti's portfolio and her ability to handle large projects single-handedly, an indication of the leadership skills the winner has shown. They also pointed out the crucial role she plays in this boutique firm by bringing enthusiasm and a positive energy. They described her design aesthetic as ‘modern and fresh’.
