Commercial Interior Design picks out three international design events to attend in June.

NeoCon
Chicago, US
June 10 to 12, 2019

This two-day launch pad for commercial interior design innovation is an unmissable event if you find yourself in the US during early June. While it may nearly be over, the event is held annually at The Mart in Chicago, and NeoCon can trace its roots back to 1969 when the first event was held to shape original ideas around the future of the built world – and the role interior design has to play.

More than 500 companies manufacturing everything from interior building products and furniture to fabric and flooring are due to attend the 51st edition of the event, which will welcome thousands of designers looking to learn, collaborate, and participate in networking opportunities. Expect outdoor workplaces, the rise of human-centric design, and the shift from decorative aesthetics to socially-conscious products to take the stage at NeoCon.

Barcelona Design Week
Barcelona, Spain
June 12 to 19, 2019

Enjoy everything the cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region has to offer during Barcelona Design Week, held every year to celebrate creativity for the commercial and individual world. Now in its 14th year, the event is organised by Barcelona Design Centre, as part of its not-for-profit efforts to spread the word about the city’s design prowess, and how it can improve public life. Attendees can expect to enjoy more than 120 activities taking place across the week-long event, including exhibitions, workshops, keynote speeches, and tailored sessions to create opportunities for business deals and networking, as well as the transference of the most important currency: knowledge.

Design for Humanity Summit II: Design in the Time of Displacement
New York, US
June 21, 2019

Set in one of the world’s most famous cities, New York’s Design for Humanity Summit is a one-day event that was launched last year to explore how design can answer some of society’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. The summit is centred on four key pillars: provoking change, promoting inclusion, fostering dignity, and curating memory. This comes at a timely moment for the regional architects and interior designers, as many firms work on important initiatives to support the UAE’s Year of Tolerance.

At last year’s Design for Humanity Summit, more than 350 industry leaders working at the intersection between design and humanitarianism came together for the first-ever event, organised as a joint initiative between International Humanitarian Affairs at Fordham University and the International Organisation for Migration. With many challenges facing the planet at an increasingly volatile time, this design event may help industry stakeholders share knowledge on truly transformational design.
