With 30 years of experience in interior design, Christian Merieau qualified as an interior architect in Geneva, Switzerland. He relocated to Dubai in 2005 as managing director for a well-known international design firm. After nearly 20 years with this firm, designing projects for international hotel operators such as Hyatt, IHG, Millennium, Rezidor, Rosewood, Marriott, Starwood and Accor, Merieau launched MMAC Design Associates with partner, Anil Mangalat. The Dubai-based interior design consultancy specialises in mid-scale and luxury hospitality design. He has also helped drive the growth of the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID) since 2009 as an executive board member.
Merieau has worked on almost 50 hotel projects. Upcoming projects include several five- and four-star properties by Kempinski and Hilton in the US$1.75bn King Abdul Aziz Road development in Makkah and Westin properties in Al Aquarya in Riyadh. In Dubai, the firm is working on Rove hotels in four UAE locations. Among their recently completed projects is the Al Manara, a Luxury Collection Hotel, in Saraya Aqaba, Jordan, shortlisted in the Hotel design category at the 2018 CID Awards. MMAC's Rasha Al-Tekreeti took home the award in the Young Interior Designer of the Year category.
