Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai
The evolution of the Middle East’s interior design industry continues unabated. Original and innovative interiors are becoming increasingly commonplace across the region, as a host of talented individuals continue to push boundaries and challenge the status quo.
Long-held misconceptions about the maturity and sophistication of the region’s interior design industry are being irreversibly broken down, allowing the Middle East to stand alongside its international peers when it comes to world-class design. With versatility and variety on its side, the region’s design industry is at a unique phase in its development. Now, more than ever, is the time to celebrate the ambition, imagination and quality of interior design in the Middle East.
The Commercial Interior Design Awards pay tribute to the projects, interior design firms and designers making their mark on the region’s interior design industry. As befitting an industry no longer in its infancy, the awards herald work that displays original thinking, creative breadth and a willingness to stray from tried and tested formulas.
The 12th annual Commercial Interior Design Awards were held on Wednesday 19th September at the Joharah Ballroom, Madinat Jumeirah and saw the largest audience yet, with a staggering 985 industry professionals celebrating late into the evening.
The evening kick started with a networking reception from 7pm and entertainment from saxophonist, Troy Soul throughout the welcome drinks, before award winning band Swing Revue opened the awards ceremony.
Hosted by local celebrities Tom Urquhart and Katie Overy, the awards ceremony saw winners in 18 categories announced, in between courses of first class food from the Madinat Jumeirah team, prize giving and entertainment.
The awards hashtag – #CIDAwards – was trending on the night as winners posted their celebrations, highly commended nominees posted their vows to improve next year and industry guests who were lucky enough to get a seat at the sold out awards posted their party pictures to jealous industry peers that left it too late to confirm their bookings. Many of them still tuned in on the Commercial Interior Design Facebook page, where action from the night can still be found.
Delighted winners on the night included Paul Bishop of Bishop Design for Interior Designer of the Year and Rasha Al-Tekreeti of MMAC Design for Young Interior Designer, with the much anticipated and fiercely contested interior design firm awards being won by Lulie Fisher Design Studio for Boutique Firm and Wilson Associates collecting the Interior Design Firm of the Year accolade.
