Anarchitect has picked up the Interior Design of the Year: Residential prize at the Commercial Interior Design Awards 2019, which took place last night at the Joharah Ballroom in Madinat Jumeirah, in Dubai.

The winning project, the Dubai Hills villa, is a 3,000 sqm private property located in Dubai’s upscale neighbourhood of Dubai Hills and is home to a young family.

"This is really unexpected because we were up against such tough competition but we are so happy that this project stood out to the judges," said Militza Ashmore, head of creative development and communications.

Jonathan Ashmore, founder of Anarchitect added: "Anarchitect as we always say is an approach, it’s about brining architecture to different scales and different interpretations, and I think with this project we were really able to program the project for a family so it was really important, based on the large scale of the project, that it really felt interactive. And the seamlessness between exterior and interior was key for us and the consistency of the detailing."

The judges praised the project for its "beautiful proportions" and interplay of natural light as well as for beautifully connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces of the residence.

Highly commended in this category for its “very elegant selection of materials” is Villa Lumière by Studio Bruno Guelaff.

Other shortlisted projects were Index Tower penthouse by And.Partners, Bvlgari apartment by MuSe Interior Design, MV22 by Perkins + Will, The Family House by Niu, The Residences at Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai by KCA International and Villa D by Roar.
