Having inaugurated the ‘UAE Design Stories: The Next Generation from the Emirates' exhibition during the 2018 Milan Design Week, , Dubai Design District (d3) is set to host its second chapter at the London Design Fair.
The exhibition is curated by Emirati designer Khalid Shafar, and supported by the UAE Mininstry of Culture and Knowledge Development.
Entitled 'Objects of the Past: Today', the exhibition brings together eight Emirati designers who will delve into the UAE's photographic archives to unearth its pictorial history surrounding its nomadic past.
Designers will be reinterpreting items found in the archives into modern day designs, taking inspiration by items used by the UAE's earliest residents. Using modern-day methodologies and processes, designers will create contemporary interpretations of nomadic items that were of great value and importance in the past.
All pieces will be specially created for the London Design Fair, with the exhibition later travelling to Paris as part of the UAE-France Cultural Dialogue programme, before returning to Dubai for the Dubai Design Week (12-17 November 2018).
The designers whose works will be showcased include Abdalla Almulla, architect; Alia Bin Omair, jewellery designer; Alia Mazrooei, interior designer; Aljoud Lootah, multi-disiplinary designer; Azza Al Qubaisi, sculptor and product designer; Rouda Al Shamsi, interior designer; Salem Mansoori, interdisciplinary designer; and Ahmad AlAreef, multidisciplinary artist.
The exhibition is set to run from 20-23 September in the Old Truman Brewery, E1.
