We are pleased to announce the shortlist for the 2018 CID Awards, which will take place on Wednesday, September 19 at the Joharah Ballroom in the Madinat Jumeirah. This year, we have received 420 submissions across 18 categories from 114 companies throughout the region. Over the course of the week, we will be releasing the names of the finalists in all the categories.

Interior Fit Out Project of the Year category: 

Drift Beach Club by Alec Fit Out 

Alec Fit Out completed the fit-out works for Drift Beach's luxurious beach club and restaurat at the One & Only Royal Mirage in Dubai. Sinuous natural shapes and natural materials take centre stage at this up-scale beachfront location, complete with a infinity pool and lush landscaped surroundings. Alec worked on the construction of the 1,000m2 restaurant including the RCC frame and envelope, partitions and high-end ID fit-out works including specialist joinery and all finishes. Additionally, they completed the construction of the 100m2 substation building and a prefabricated food truck. 

Cigna by Kinnarps Project Solutions LLC

Kinnarps Project Solutions completed the new Cigna DWTC office space, receiving a WELLGold certification under the WELLBuilding Standard for Commercial and Institutional Office for New and Existing Interiors. Large sections of the ceiling were exposed slab sprayed out black with acoustic ceiling rafts placed over the top of workstations in the mainly open plan office. The use of timber and acoustic ceiling baffles in the canteen, breakout spaces and the reception helped defuse the exposed MEP services. 

The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre by Depa Group

Depa Interiors was awarded the contract to procure and construct the interior finishes for the prestigious King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. The project comprises of a number of distinct areas including a research and conference centre including a 300 seat auditorium; an IT centre, the Musalla and a library that includes a program hall and seminar space for up to 400 people. Interior surface are made up of a number of finishes including specialist high gypsum walls, some of which are 20 metres high, glass partitioning, complex internal elevations constructed of GRG shards, raked Baswaphon acoustic ceilings, sculptural metal stairs, complex perforated screens and various water features. 

Emirates Hospital Jumeirah by Emkay Interiors 

With a striking glass and wood 17m atrium, Emkay Interiors' fit-out scope also included all corridors, patient rooms, the VIP patient rooms, and lobby, including wall cladding, wooden panels, all joinery work, doors, handrails, counters, ceilings, wallpaper, as well as all the finishes and solid surfaces such as stainless steel frames and glasswork - all approved by the Dubai Health Authority. Focusing on the detailing of the hospital project, Emkay also worked on the mosaics featured on the main staircase. 

Scalini by Finasi LLC 

Envisioned to have a refreshing material pallete and color scheme inspired by a southern Italian coast, this was executed through FF&E, which harmoniously balances rustic white washed woods with an authentic terracotta flooring. A mixture of bright artworks, dim lights, white tablecloths and navy leathers combines authentic Italian charm with a modern take. A key aspect of the venue is its versatile seating options including an outside terrace that creates an intimate environment.  

Flamingo Room by Tashas by BW Interiors and Compass Project Management

Paying homage to the owner's South African roots and to the golden era of the '20s, the Flamingo Room by Tashas features a restaurant that transitions into a cocktail / bar area, including indoor and outdoor dining and a concept store with objet de Africana. Art deco elements and old-age glamour fuses with influences from the African continent, including stone, terrazzo, timber and metals used in the finishes, furniture and fixtures - resulting in a one of a kind venue. Compass Project Management worked with BW Interiors throughout the delivery phase, managing stakeholders including client and design team, administering construction contracts, coordinating landlord approvals, logistics and installation of client supplied items up until handover.

Renaissance Downtown Hotel by Khansaheb Interiors

Khansaheb completed the interior fit-out of Renaissance Downtown Hotel, along with its in-house joinery and metal teams. Due to the complexity of the project, the project was split into two packages: the first phase being the fit-out of David Meyer’s Club Lounge, Bleu Blanc by David Meyers, as well as the Secret Bar and the executive boardrooms. The second package consisted of the luxurious Six Senses Spa that boasts stunning vaulted ceilings as well as the Renaissance’s signature restaurant, Morimoto. Some of the highlights includes the complex joinery and special finishes, three-dimensional timber and metal wall features, a freely hanging staircase,  various concrete finishes, solid timber log features on walls and ceilings and a lift cage that gives the property an industrial feel.

Vox Cinema Mirdiff by Al Tayer Stocks

The VOX Cinema fit-out by Al Tayer Stocks includes 10 auditoriums (including IMAX theatres), 10 projector rooms, the foyer, concessions, main concourse area, two kitchens, standard & VIP toilets, staff room, projection office, function room, store rooms, electrical room, server room and the Theatre By Rhodes Bar & Lounge Area.
